Coed-Y-Foel Information Genealogy/Documents 500-999/Doc0716-Coed-Y-Foel-Information.txt ---------------------------------------- Remember when we decussed to great length Coed y Foel's locale. Found the correct answer: Welsh Founders of PA by Glen, vol 2, p.86-7 says "John Wynne is the gr-son of Thomas Wynne who is proved to have m. the other dau of Cadwaladr ap Maredydd and held the other half of Coed y Foel in 1698. the place was known as Coed y Foel Isaf and Coed y Foel Uchaf (lowest and uppermost) there after. Coed y Foel adjoins Fron Goch." Cadwaladr ap Maredydd had another dau who inherited the other half of Coed y Foel. She was Jane who m. Evan Robert Lewis. Another place to visit for sure! p. 87 says that the mother of Cadwaladr ap Maredydd was Elin, d/o Cadwaladr ap Robert of Rhiwlas, son of Sir Robert ap Rhys of Yspytty Evan. (It then says to see the Roberts line) p. 24: Cadwaladr ap Robert, 3rd son of Sir Robert ap Rhys ...had a lease for the "Grange of Penllyn" consisting of Rhiwlas and other lands near Bala. Cadwaladr ap Robert, called of Plas yn Rhiwlas which formed a part of the "Grange of Penllyn m. Jane, d/o Maredydd Wynn ap Ieuan ap Robert of Gwydir and had 6 sons & 7 dau. John the eldest son assumed the surname of Wynn. He inherited Plas yn Rhiwlas adn was High Sheriff of Merionethshire in 1577 & 1588. HIs eldest son, Cadwaladr assumed the surname of Pryse or Price which was retained by his descendants and the family still own and reside at Plas yn Rhiwlas. (MY note: This seems to say this is the Price family that owned the Rhiwlas Estate.) I knew these little farms near Fron Goch were related!! If I am correct --we are related to the Price family! ----------------------------------------------------- Thanks for the Foulke site --VERY interesting. For those you may wish to know, Coed y Foel (literally --according to my books -- "trees of the baretopped hill." An enigma!) is VERY near Fron Goch. The problem is that I see TWO, with an additional word on each. I find Coed-y-foel-isaf between Bala and Frongoch (the town) on a road (B4501) just east and paralleling A4212 which rund from Bala to Frongoch. It appears to be about 2 1/2 miles north of Bala. On the same road and even closer (maybe a mile) form Bala is Rhiwlas, antoher tiny place. Coed-y-foel-uchaf is on the same road a bit north of Frongoch. >From the site Beth shared with us, I would say Coed-y-foel is the first one mentioned, for certain. Obviously there are a few scalped hillsides with trees around! Llanderfel, mentioned under XV. THOMAS at the site is located east of Bala and sourth of the highway A494. It is a town on route B4401...about 6 miles from Bala, if I recall correctly. It is near the old Mill B & B where I stayed. I'm not able to spot a Coed y foel in this area. ------------------------------------------------------------------
