The State of Ohio Preble County Court of Common Pleas March Term 1833.
The Supplemental declaration of Jeremiah Piles on
this twenty third day of March, in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and Thirty Three personally
appeared before the Honorable the Judges of the Court of
Common Pleas in and for the County of Preble in the State
of Ohio. Jeremiah Piles aged seventy one years (he being the
identical person who made and subscribed before this Court
on the 21st day of September 1832 the declaration to which
this annexed) and who is a Resident of Preble County who
being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath
make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit
of the act of Congrefs passed June 7 1832 in addition
to the declaration already heretofore made.
That some time in the year seventeen hundred and
eighty one, to the best of Deponent recollection, but he
cannot remember exactly the time he entered the service
of his country in the war of the Revolution at Bedford
County Virginia, as a volunteer militiaman under Captain
Adams to guard the town of Bedford against the threatened
invasion of the British and remained in camp at that
place two months and upwards until they learned that
the british had pafsed by – Deponent remembers that Colonel
Lynch who was their Colonel of the County was at Camp
frequently – but whether he had any command he cannot
state – Deponent says that he served in all, as a militiaman
in the war of the Revolution, upwards of eight months
that at the close of this tour he received no written dis
charge – and that he knows of no living witnefs by whom
he can prove said service –

We Henry Monfort Clergyman and Alexander Mitchell
a Citizen, both residents of the County of Preble and
State of Ohio, do hereby certify that we are well acquainted
with Jeremiah Piles, who has subscribed and sworn
to the above declaration that we believe him to be
seventy one years of age, that he sustains a good character

for truth and veracity that he is respected and believed in his neighborhood to have been a soldier of the Rev
olution. and that we have full confidence in the truth of his declaration –
Sworn to and subscribed the day and year aforesaid

And the said Court do hereby declare their opinion after the
investigation of the matter and after putting the witness
stories prescribed by the War department that the above named appli
cant was a Revolutionary soldier and served as he states – and
the Court further certifies that it appears to them that Henry
Monfort who has signed the preceding certificate is a Clergyman
resident in the County of Preble, and State of Ohio and that
Alexander Mitchell who has also signed the same is a resident
of the same County and State and is a credible person – and
that their statement is entitled to credit

hereby certify that the foregoing contains the original proceedings
of the said Court in the matter of the application of Jeremiah

The State of Ohio Preble County
Court of Common Pleas
September Term 1832

On this twenty first day of September in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and thirty two personally appeared before the
Honorable the Judge of the Court of Common
Pleas in and for the county of Preble in the state
of Ohio Jeremiah Piles aged seventy years a resident
of the County aforesaid who being first duly sworn
according to law doth on his oath make the foll-
owing declaration in order to obtain the benefit
of the act of Confrefs passed June seventh eighteen
hundred and thirty two –
That in October seventeen hundred and eighty
he was drafted in Bedford County Virginia to
serve six months in Captain Child’s militia Com-
pany of Colonel ??? regiment and general
Macklenberg’s (?) brigade he was marched first to
Petersburgh thence to Cabin Point thence to L??
cho where he af???? to take a pickett guard
of eighteen British soldiers in which contest
deponent was wounded Colonel Hinnes(?) command-
ed, at the end of six months deponent received a written discharge at Cabin Point signed by
Captain Childs which is hereto attached – after he
was discharged he served during the year seven
teen hundred and eighty one about two months
at the town of Bedford which was the last

of his service making in all eight months
Deponent knows of no living witnesses by who he
can prove his services but he is well known to Alexan
der Mitchel Jacob Stamon and John Weikle
residents of the county of Preble by whom he can
prove that he sustains a good character for truth
and veracity and that he is respected and believes
to have been a soldier of the revolution – he has
a written record of his age from which it appears
that he was born in Loudoun County Virginia
in March seventeen hundred and sixty two
He had lived in Preble County Ohio fourteen years
He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to
a pension or annuity except the present and ?? de=
clares that his name is not on the pension roll
of the agency of any state

Alexander Mitchel Jacob Stamon and John Weikle
residents of the county of Preble in the state

Jacob Stamon and Alexander Mitchell, who have signed the pre=
ceeding certificate, are residents of the County of Preble, and are
credible persons, and that their Statement is entitled to credit
by the Court J C Hawkins Clerk

       In October 1780 Jeremiah Piles was drafted in Bedford Co. Va. to serve six months as a private in Capt. Childs Militia Co. of Colonel Winns regiment and General Muhlengergs Brigade. He was Picket guard of eighteen British soldiers at Cabin Point. He received a written discharge at Cabin Point after six months service. After discharge served during the year 1781 about six months at the town of Bedford. This was the last of his services. Serving in all eight months.
