"Perhaps so named because it was a livestock shipping point." [S8, p 159]
Began around 1900 - located at Wheeling Pike and CR900N - Was on the CI&E Railroad between Muncie & Matthews - Farmers drove their cattle to the Stockport station to be shipped to market.  Railway station torn down in the 1920s - The tracks taken up in 1975.  There remained a store and gas station at the location into the 1950s.  [S9]
"also in Washington Township, did not come along until the turn of the century.  It's still represented by a few houses at Wheeling Pike and County Road 900N.  It came in to existence when the Chicago, Indiana & Eastern Railroad extended its tracks from Matthews to Muncie.  And it got its name from its function.  As one of two railroad stations in Washington Township (The other was at Wheeling) it was a place to which farmers drove their livestock for shipment to market.  Stockport lost its railroad - U.S. 35 - was routed over Wheeling Pike between Muncie and Marion, and into the 1950s Stockport had a store and gasoline station."
