  Myron Occupations:

Farming
(Myron thought he would be a farmer all of his life but with the onset of asthma he had to find other ways to make a living)

Indiana Condensed Milk Company (Myron worked for this company for 13 years from about 1942 until about 1955)

Biddle Precision Manufacturing (He worked for Biddle for 21 years retiring in 1976) - Started about 1955 - I55,

Raising Tomatoes:  Where did you pick tomatoes? We raised them on the farm at Fairview. Dad and Myron raised them and got the money from them. Myron got married while they were living at Arcadia. When they moved from Arcadia to the Fairfield farm, Grandpa Robbins rented a house for Myron a couple of roads from the Fairview house for him and Irene to live in. He lived there and helped Dad and grandpa farm for a couple of years then moved to Sheridan and began working in a factory. Myron didn't have to go to the service because he had two kids by then. [Interview-Dad 29 Sept 2005]

Myron Avocations:

Radio
Myron loved to listen to the baseball games on the radio but in his youth commercial radios were not readily available so he taught himself how to build a crystal radio. This is a very crude instrument that uses a "Cat's whisker" as a tuner and a very long antenna. He would sit with his headphones glued to his head enjoying the play by play of the ballgames.  According to his younger brother, Myron would rather listen to the ballgames and fool with his radio more than anything - He loved to tinker.

Dad told me that Uncle Myron would rather listen to his radio than go outside and do farm work, especially if the Cincinnati Reds were playing. He also told me that Myron built a crystal radio set and had a long wire antenna hooked up to it. These stories were the inspiration for my early interest in radio and electronics. I didn't really know Uncle Myron but I knew I was interested in what he had been interested in as a boy. I also preferred to stay inside rather than do farm work.

History

History was Myron's favorite subject in High School and it just came naturally to him "...Myron didn't have to study -- he could read it once and he had it."

Family History was his passion. It seemed, besides his family, this was his main pursuit in life. He traveled extensively visiting the towns and cemeteries connected with his ancestors. He spent untold hours in libraries and archives searching for the documents giving life to those who came before him. [S51]

Myron amassed a huge collection of material that fortunately still exists and is in the care of his youngest daughter.

I visited with Myron and his wife Mary Elizabeth on several occasions and saw first-hand the passion that both of them had for their families both past and present. The spark for my life-long interest in family history originated with these two fine people. I will be forever grateful to Uncle Myron for this wonderful gift.

Dear Helen,
Many thanks for your commencement program we received a few days ago.
We are glad you have always had such a good school to go too and have finished high school. And it would be nice if you could make something out of your schooling.
I hope you will not forget your father who has worked lots of days, where he wasn't able so you children would have the things you have needed and wanted.
Wednesday morning we were looking at television and say you interviews by Hal Simons. Could see and hear you as well as if we had been there.
It was quite a thrill for me and I know it was for you.
We want to give you a little something, but as we do not go to town very often and don't know what you need or want will send you the money.
Hope it gets there O.K. It isn't very much but maybe you can get something with it.
We both wish you all the happiness and good fortune you can get out of life.
Have a good time while you can.
Love,/ Your Grandfather and Grandmother.

Monday Morning.
We got one letter from Junior while he was in the hospital, in March, but haven't heard from him since. I answered him and Esther has written to him three times with out an answer. Hope he got better and able to go back to whatever he was doing. Expect he has found out he has gotten into something pretty serious.
Your Grand father has been pretty sick but is lots biter to day. The Dr. was here yesterday and isn't coming back unless we send for him. He still has Asthma and sinus trouble, has been having rheumatism in one leg for sometime, then last week he had a blood clot in the other leg. That is gone now and he feels better every day so we are feeling much encouraged this morning.
