Strawtown
-  (1894) "This town has a history, which would be interesting if space in this Directory permitted so extensive a description, but it must suffice to say that this little village has seen a time when it aspired to be selected as the capital of Indiana, and also the site for teh county seat of Hamilton.  Fate seems to have decreed against Strawtown, and the village is now content to be known as a thriving place, inhabited by some 200 prosperous people.  The Strawtown cornet Band, composed of fourteen members, is the pride of the place.  W. A. Morris is its secretary."  [S20, p 46]

-  (1894) "This enterprising, 'ge-up-and-git' town is really the wonder of the county.  As late as 1870 the first town plat was laid off and a village started at this point under the name of Millwood.  In a few years another town wanted to start on the other side of the road, so the inhabitants combined the two under the name of Sheridan.  This place is located in the west part of Adams Township, on the line of the Monon Railroad, and has grown from a straggling village in 1887 to a magnificent town of 220 prosperous people.  Besides the largest brick works in the world, it numbers among its industries large, roller flour mills, elevators, lumber and planing mills, tile mills, a hoop manufactory, novelty works, state bank of Sheridan, and the necessary commercial houses.  Good schools, churches, secret and benevolent societies are maintained.  The Sheridan Gas Coal and Oil Company is an institution of the place, and, taken all in all, Sheridan is a place for investors to keep an eye on.  It has an inexhaustible supply of natural gas and is the second town in the county." -  (1894) "The subject of this introduction is a wide-awake town of 1,000 inhabitants, located in Washington Township, and at the junction of the C. & S. E. and the Monon Railroads.  Westfield was platted in May, 1834, by Ambrose Osborn, Simon Moon and Asa Bales.  This place and contingent territory is thickly settled by members of the Society of friends (Quakers) and this fact alone is sufficient evidence of its stability and business solidity.  The industries of Westfield embrace a furniture factory, planing mill, creamery, roller flour mill, carriage and wagon works, the Bank of Westfield, and a large number of first-class commercial houses.  The schools, churches and societies are the pride of its citizens.  It has, as all the other towns of the county, an inexhaustible supply of natural gas, and its doors are open to encourage all legitimate concerns or people to locate within its limits."
